Meet Pam

I am a single mompreneur. I am bootstrapping. I am trying to make the world a better place with the beautiful gift and vital life skill of independent sleep.

1. Over 10,000 hours of full time hands on sleep consulting experience before I started teaching others. Talk to any professional in any field, experience brings wisdom and mastery.

2. While I watched the baby sleep coach industry take off with sophisticated marketing and certification programs, I focused on relationships and outcomes. I stopped advertising completely. I was too overwhelmed with business due to word of mouth referrals. This will always be a cornerstone of my business. Clients are like FAMILY to me: so much so that we launched a private Facebook group so that we can selfishly keep in touch with all of them plus add value in a whole new way to the families we serve.

3. In addition to a hands on approach and constantly asking each and every family, how I could improve, I immersed myself in the subject. I am university educated. No, not in sleep. I had no idea in High School that my path would lead me here to you, dear reader. I am a student at heart. That will never change. I promise you. For example, I went back to a biennial Pediatric Sleep Medicine Conference that I was invited to in 2017. Do I need to attend? No, I choose to.

4. I am a parent. I was once a sleep deprived mom. I get it. I understand. If you have watched any of my videos, you will often hear me say. “I am not selling water bottles. I am dealing with human life,tiny human beings with tiny toes and tiny fingers. I take that so SERIOUSLY. Some argue, too seriously and it is inhibiting my income but I dismiss their criticism and will continue on with a one family at a time and one Associate at a time approach, for now.

Children are my passion:

Born and raised in the UK, I always knew I wanted to pursue a career working with children. After studying for my ECE, I spent 17 wonderfully fulfilling years caring for hundreds of children in both daycare setting and as a private nanny to many special families before finally starting a family of my own.

My Favourite Things:

I love outdoors, hiking, biking and CAMPING, rain or shine! After almost 13 years in Canada, I am still terribly addicted to the English TV show Coronation Street – thank goodness we get it here! I even make Alex watch it, he knows the theme tune. I’m equally addicted to Netflix and binge watching, especially English crime drama. I also love reading, but my guilty secret is – that rather than reading informative intelligent, mind expanding books – I much prefer a sappy, easy to read novel. I love to spend time in the kitchen baking and cooking – when I have the spare time LOL!!!

How I met Pam:

Whilst working with and representing a local Nanny agency in Kelowna, BC, I had the opportunity to see a presentation by Pam Nease at a local baby fair. Pam’s caring, nurturing, loving approach was a far cry from any other sleep consultants I had heard of through friends. My instincts were right and I knew right from the start that Pam’s sleep solution was the right fit for my family. Within a week of working with Pam, my son had said goodbye to all his previous sleep tools and was going to bed happy and sleeping peacefully. And a year later, he still is!

In all of my years of caring for infants, I have seen time and time again how sleep or lack of sleep could affect the little ones in my care. The gift of sleep given to my family by Pam had such a positive impact on all of us, that when I heard that Pam was looking to expand her team of sleep consultants I leapt at the opportunity and I haven’t looked back since. I love seeing the amazing transformations in the families that I work with when bedtimes are FUN and the whole family is getting lots of peaceful, restorative sleep!

Before I was a Sleep Angel:

I was an elementary school teacher.

My Loves:

I have a 7 year old daughter Olivia, and 4 year old son Kent. They are both equally energetic and keep me on my toes!

My Favourite Things:

I like binge watching shows on Netflix, a lot of crime dramas, and binge reading novels, again, a lot of crime dramas. I like listening to podcasts to get me through cleaning up the kitchen and taking a walk every night after dinner. I LOVE going to Target alone, going to the movies with my husband, and going to Disneyland with my kiddos. I love my morning cups of coffee, even if they are cold by the time I get to finishing them, and I love dark chocolate. Well, most desserts really. It’s a problem. 

Life Before Pam:

I am a former client of Pam’s. Before hiring her, my life consisted of pacifiers, a lot of bouncing and rocking, various swaddles, shh-ing to the tune of any song I could think of, butt patting, back rubbing, darkened rooms, and prayers that my precious, incredible daughter Olivia would just fall asleep already! And stay asleep! These were my nights. My days consisted of Olivia sleeping anywhere but her crib, because there was no way she was staying asleep there. So she slept in my arms, in the rocker thing, her car seat, or in her stroller so I could get out of the house to meet up with friends and vent about how deliriously tired I was. I would fantasize about going down the street and checking into a hotel, ALONE, so I could sleep. I was surviving off coffee and carbs and could never remember when I had showered last. My husband was working incredibly hard at work, putting in long hours and traveling a lot, so I was doing a lot of the sleep stuff alone.

Life After Pam:

Pam has since helped my husband and I teach both Olivia and Kent to be rock-star sleepers. They both sleep 11-12 hours a night and Kent naps for 2.5 hours in the afternoon. My children enjoy their bedtime routine and love sleeping, because they know how good they feel when they wake up well rested. Pam taught us to make sleep a priority in our family and because of that, we are happier, more patient, and way more fun to be around. My husband and I actually have time to go out on dates! And we don’t worry about leaving our kids with a sitter because we know they are sound asleep and won’t wake until morning.

Before joining the Dream Team, I was always recommending Pam to sleep deprived parents, because I truly believe in the process she uses to teach these babies the beautiful gift and skill of sleep. I want to be able to help families get the sleep they need and make a difference in their lives the way Pam did for my husband and I. Plus, it’s so fun meeting all these families from all over the U.S. and Canada!

Before I was a sleep angel:

I taught (still do!) fitness classes. My favourite one to teach is called Pound (crazy fun class with drumsticks). ⁠

My favourite things:

My family, vintage clothes (I collect), dancing in the grocery store aisles, reading, bike rides with Roman, the beach, I love to cook, and coffee... give me all the coffee please! 

My little family:

I have a boy named Roman, a wild dog named Logan and Jordan is my partner in crime. Roman keeps me on my toes and we love to spend our days outside exploring. I am grateful I can be there with him at home everyday.

Life before and After Pam

Life Before Pam: I had my son Roman in 2017 and the minute he came home from the hospital he was a terrible sleeper. We spent the first month or two letting him sleep on either myself, my partner or my mom taking rotations through the night so he could safely sleep on one of us. Around the time he turned two months I caved and started co-sleeping with him (something I was very dead set against). That helped for a month or two and we got a few more hours of sleep a night but it eventually changed and we were back to sleepless nights with him up every 1-2 hours. I knew he was sleeping poorly and that became very stressful. I always knew I wanted to instill healthy sleep habits with him but there is SO much information out there! We decided to hire a sleep consultant and that's how we came to meet Pam. She was a lifesaver!!!

 

Life after Pam:

Our little guy sleeps 10-11 hours straight every night and he naps like a champ. The best part about going through this process is having your super sleeper go down happily for anyone and anywhere. He loves sleep and we love that we have given him the gift of good sleep.

 

Why become a sleep angel?: After working with Pam I noticed many changes in my relationship with my partner and especially my son all for the better. Once we all got sleep our lives changed so much. Pam saved my family really and truly! I want to do the same as she did for us, I am so excited to be a part of this team!

Before I was a Sleep Angel: Most recently, I worked with kids and adults for a local church. Before having my own kids I worked in corporate sales and customer service for an outdoor gear and clothing company.

My Loves: 

My three boys, aged 9, 7, and 5 are proud big brothers to their new baby sister, who just turned one. They all have their own beautiful little personalities and I love watching who they're becoming! 

My favourite things:

Going for walks in our hilly neighbourhood with my family. Playing soccer or rock climbing. Coffee in my biggest mug. Watching stand-up comedy after the kids are in bed. Fresh-picked cherries. Decorating. Seeing my kids play together in the backyard (and actually get along?! #parentinggoals). Celebrating with them when they've learned to crawl or read or play the drums, and everything in between!

Life Before & After Pam

Life before Pam: When my first son was a baby, I had no idea what I was doing. People told me to just follow my instincts (which worked to a certain extent) but I was given much conflicting advice, and eventually read conflicting books about how to get my baby to sleep. I tried EVERYTHING from shushing, rocking, bouncing, co-sleeping, nursing to sleep, using the baby swing, dream-feeding, etc., but my 5-month-old was napping poorly and waking numerous times at night. I was going crazy, feeling like, "This should be easier by now!"

Life after Pam:

Enter Pam Nease. I had heard about her through my mom, who had worked at the local pregnancy care centre in Kelowna. Pam's method was clear and easy to follow, and my husband and I were able to implement it with confidence knowing our son would eventually "get it" and sleep well if we followed her advice. He did! He is still a super-sleeper at 9 years old. We then hired Pam with our second child when he was old enough to learn to sleep. With our third and fourth children we helped our babies sleep on our own, using what we had learned from Pam with our other babies, with great success. We weren't always perfect but in the end, having Pam's tools in our parenting tool belt has been a great blessing!

Why become a Sleep Angel?

Ever since working on my babies' sleep with Pam, I have wanted to work with her. I even told her that after our final phone call 7 years ago! Life brought me in other directions and I had more babies, but we kept in touch. When this opportunity came around again, I jumped at the chance to help other families, like ours, who want to sleep again -- who want to stop feeling like sleep-deprived zombies walking around. I am excited to combine my love for people, my bit of counselling training, my customer service experience, and all-around passion on the subject of sleep to better the lives of as many families as possible!

A little history:

I was born in Australia and came to Canada when I was 5. I lived in the GTA for most of my life, but moved to Kelowna, British Columbia for 2 years after I got married, and then moved back to Ontario. We have a wild one year old named Shepherd who is the light of my life!

Before I was a Sleep Angel: 

I mostly worked in Retail Management at Roots, Teavana, and Dynamite. I took a break to be a Nanny throughout my pregnancy, but thanks to Pam, I am now blessed to be able to work from home. 

My favourite things: 

I love my iced-coffees all year round, a beautiful sunny day, sitting by the pool or at the beach, thrifting, my work as a doula, essential oils, and travelling - specifically to Hawaii - my happy place. 

Life before Pam: 

My son would be up every 1-2 hours at night, would need to be nursed to sleep, and would only nap in my arms. My body, boobs, and back were constantly sore. I was having panic attacks, getting sick, pushing myself, and feeling like a failure as a mother. I was terrified of having any more kids because I didn't think I could handle it. Thankfully, a friend pointed me to Pam Nease Sleep, and our beloved Sophie worked with us and gave us the gift of sleep.

Life after Pam: 

He sleeps around 11 hours a night now! The first night we started, he only woke up once. He slept through the second night. He went from being a terrible sleeper to not waking up once. I was the one up most of the night anxiously anticipating him to wake up. It has been incredible to have my evenings and nights to catch up on housework, spending time with my husband, just relaxing or going out. I know he is healthy and growing because he is getting the sleep his little body needs.

Why become a Sleep Angel? 

I am so excited to work with parents to help them and their children to learn a skill that will have a lasting impact. Sleeplessness and sleeping problems in general have been a constant struggle in my life, and to be able to help establish healthy sleep habits for families is a privilege.  I am excited to dive in in October, join this team, and meet all the wonderful families who are desperate for sleep, knowing that sleep is on its way!

Powerhouse Concierge & Office Ninja

A little about me:
I was born and raised in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and moved to Stratford, Ontario in November of 2007. I worked at the Stratford Festival for 11 years in Marketing and Front of House and LOVE the theatre (especially musicals!). I hate to cook, put hot sauce on absolutely everything and love travel and try new things.

My husband Paul and I were married in 2012 and have two little girls, Stella and Isla. They are fiesty little firecrackers with amazing personalities and we love them dearly. Our fur baby Sampson was the first baby in the house and loves his two little girls, too.

Life before Pam:
It's a blur! I had been co-sleeping with Stella in the guest room for 5 months when I reached out for help. I was in a very dark place and knew that something needed to change! Paul and I decided that sleep learning was worth a shot but we were skeptical. Fast forward to 4 years later and Stella is a #supersleeper. I even hired Pam a second time for Isla who also sleeps like a machine now. "What would we have done without Pam?!" is a commonly uttered phrase in our house. And now, I am lucky enough to be part of her team and speak to parents every day who were in the same place I was. I'm truly grateful to be making a difference and helping families get to great sleep!

A Little History:

I was born and raised in Fort McMurray, AB. I received my Bachelor’s of Communications, majoring in Journalism from MRU in Calgary. Fast forward a few years and I sort of fell into the role as an on-air personality at a radio station in my home town. In fact, it is how I met my now husband; he used to tune into the morning show and followed me on Twitter (not in a creepy way LOL)! Fast forward a few more years and we left Alberta for beautiful British Columbia when our daughter was just six-weeks-old—where until recently, my brain power as a stay-at-home mom was primarily used to memorize the 300+ books my daughter loves and asks me to read 1,000 times daily.

My Pride & Joy:

I’m the mother of a busy 3 year old daughter Mackinley, who is precocious, silly and sweet and Daniella, a bright-eyed baby girl who is full of smiles and coos. 

My Favourite Things:

Any vegetable you can spiralize—I’m obsessed. Watching ‘The Bachelor/Bachelorette’ has been a 15-year guilty pleasure of mine. Spending all day on the boat on Okanagan Lake with my family, good friends, music, and plenty of snacks. Wine. Wearing my husband’s sweat pants. Vanilla matcha lattes. My insulated travel mug: because without it, my tea would forever be cold by the time I get around to drinking it. Homemade nachos. The TV series ‘This Is Us’—I ugly cry at least once during every episode. And probably my favourite thing ever: those sweet, momentary snuggles with my little girl.

Life Before Pam:

For the first five months of motherhood, I was utterly exhausted, running on less than 4 hours of consolidated sleep every night. I felt like a shell of my former self, unable to enjoy all the aspects of my baby girl’s daily developments because I was just hoping both of us could get rest at some point that day or night. And forget about having any spare quality time with my husband that didn’t involve me crying about being so tired, or getting frustrated and losing my temper over the smallest of things.

So many people kept reassuring me that, “It’s normal for a baby not to sleep through the night until they’re a year old.” Or: “She’ll sleep when she is tired.” But Mackinley was so beyond overtired. It broke my heart to see her constantly yawning and rubbing at her eyes.  I desperately wanted to give her the gift of sleep.

I had tried many different sleep training plans (Ferber, Babywise, Shhh Pat etc.) once Mackinley hit 3 months old– all with little to no success and I began to feel like a failure and an emotional wreck.  I reached out on social media about our lack of sleep, a few friends recommended I look into sleep consultants. I had never heard of such a thing, so I started to research it. I came across Pam’s website and Facebook page and immediately she stood out from the other sleep consultants – not just from reviews from overjoyed parents but with the genuine way she presented her business and own personal experience with sleep.

Pam’s methods were like taking bits and pieces from all the advice I had read and combining them all into one consistent, beautiful package. The best part was: for every question we could possibly have, there was an answer or solution ready for us– something so many of the books and articles I had been reading didn’t include.

That first night, though there were a few brief night wakes, Mackinley slept for 10 hours!! We were blown away.

Life After Pam:

Finally, I wasn’t being physically and mentally drained nursing her to sleep for two hours straight. Or bruising my hips leaning over the crib railing as I would attempt to slowly and very carefully put her down then tip toe away hoping not to step on any squeak toys, or bump into anything in the dark.

It’s been more than a year and a half now, and our daughter has consistently slept more than 11 hours every single night and naps 2-3 hours each day.

My husband and I can actually sit down at the dining table after we put Mackinley to bed, enjoy a home cooked meal, and watch an entire movie from start to finish without any disruptions before getting a good night’s rest ourselves. We are all happier and healthier because of Pam!

How I became part of the Team as “Special Ops”:

During my farewell call with Pam, I was so impressed with her and how genuine she was I asked if we could be friends. We kept in touch and as she began to grow her brand, she had a growing list of projects she’s had on the back burner she wanted to tackle. I was finally ready to dip my toes back into the working pool and there was no one I would rather work for than Pam.

I am so grateful to be a part of this wonderful team of women who are helping so many families give the gift of sleep to their precious children– just as Pam had done for my family.

my philosophy

When you search: How do I get my Baby to Sleep? You will get about 450,000,000 responses.

Where do you start? Who do you trust?

When our parents were raising us, the opposite was the problem. My mom said you were told to put your big girl panties on, suck it up, struggle through and do your best. There was very limited information with respect to parenting, especially when it came to sleep.

Is this a new problem? No. If you go back to Victorian times, nurses were giving a form of opium (laudanum) to help babies sleep. Sounds crazy, but it’s true!

the #1 parenting problem

Sleep happens to be the number one parenting problem. When you are a new parent, the dialogue goes something like this… How old is your baby? What is their name? Are they sleeping through the night?

As a parent, you cannot help but be confused. Dr. William Sears, is a renowned Doctor who promotes bedsharing and co-sleeping for good sleep and healthy attachment. On the other side of the spectrum Dr. Marc Weissbluth, another renowned Doctor, promotes the exact opposite. He recommends that babies should be left alone to cry it out in order to sleep well. His method is also known as extinction.

Then, when you investigate further, there are hundreds of books and websites with do it yourself options available for purchase. Some of the most popular ones today are Taking Cara Babies, The No-Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley, The Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg and Melinda Blau, Solve Your Child’s Sleep Problems by Dr. Richard Ferber, and Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child by Dr. Marc Weissbluth.
